Our story —

In the spring of 2015, Yue moved to San Francisco on a whim after being a TV host and dating coach in NYC, Beijing, LA and a myriad of other places. She soon realized her advice about “winning” over dates and traditional gender roles did not hold true in the modern age. It was time to re-examine everything she knew about dating to find love in her own life and also help others.

Julie, on the other hand, had lived in San Francisco her entire adult life. She experienced the ups and downs of dating from when online dating wasn’t a “thing” to when dating apps exploded. After feeling frustrated by the dating apps, she used her technology and research background to create 500 Brunches, a platform that connected people with similar interests to meet in real life, over brunch.

Yue & Julie actually met through a 500 Brunches event and became fast friends. They often found themselves talking about relationships and questioning why we date the way we do. So one night, after a couple of glasses of wine, they decided they would start a podcast to document all the craziness of modern dating and try to figure out what the f*ck was going on…

So why a podcast—

Dating is one of those topics where you want to hear ALL THE DETAILS. You want to pick up the phone to tell your friends about the crazy date you had last night. That is exactly what we wanted to recreate with a podcast. Having your friends in your ear, telling their stories without leaving out any details…exposing you to their intimate thoughts and revelations, and leaving you space to digest and iterate on your own perspectives.

Once moving to San Francisco, she realized that her advice about “winning” over dates and traditional gender roles did not hold true in the modern age. She realized that she needed to re-examine everything she knew about dating and is on a mission to help people question the why.

Meet Julie—

Julie is a technologist and researcher fascinated by human connection and relationships. She had been in the dating trenches from when online dating wasn’t a “thing” to when dating apps exploded. After feeling frustrated by the apps herself, she created the platform 500 Brunches, which facilitated meeting people more organically IRL. She saw first hand the importance of connection in a world that's more disconnected than ever. She's on a mission to help people form deeper connections and create the love lives they've always wanted.
